With the festive season approaching fast, what better time to tackle a few home cleaning tasks, so you’re just a little more ‘home ready’?
1.De-clutter! This seems obvious but going through room to room and deciding what could be stored away, given away or thrown away, will make cleaning so much easier and instantly make you feel more organised!
2. Give your bathroom a thorough clean; disinfect the toilet, basin, shower, bath, countertop, floor and surrounds, making sure you don’t forget door handles and light switches – especially if anyone has caught a cold! Also, remember your bathroom mirror – a handy tip for cleaning your mirror is to fill a spray bottle with a 50:50 solution of white vinegar and water and wipe with a lint-free cloth.
3. Tidy your entrance hall! What better than welcoming any visitors to your home than having a clean and welcoming first impression? Declutter your shoe rack and hanging space and if you don’t already have an umbrella holder, they can be a very handy purchase so guests will know where to leave their soggy umbrella! It’s also a good idea to invest in an indoor door mat which will instantly cosy any hallway, just don’t forget your outside door mat too.
4. If you’re lucky enough to have a guest room, then this is the perfect time for a good clean and to air the room. It’s probably not been high on your radar for dusting unless you have frequent guests, so a proper dust everywhere including light fittings, tops of wardrobes etc is probably in order.
5. Your sofa’s will likely be the centre of attention for many come the festive season, so now is a good time to focus on making them as clean and inviting as possible. All sofas come with a cleaning label attached to take the guesswork out of cleaning, so be sure to read yours before attempting any clean. If you’re lucky enough to have fabric removable and washable covers then things just got even easier, but again, please check labels before continuing, and air on the side of caution by washing at a lower temperature than even your label suggests to avoid shrinkage.
6. Now you have a clean and welcoming sofa, you’ll want to relax with a hot drink, so next on your clean list should be your kettle! Our two favourite methods for getting a spotless kettle are using either bicarbonate of soda or white vinegar. To use bicarb first fill your kettle halfway with water then add a teaspoon of bicarb, boil then let soak for about 30 minutes and rinse thoroughly with fresh water. To use white vinegar, fill your kettle three quarters full, with equal parts vinegar and water, then bring to the boil and allow to cool. Tip away and rinse several times. It’s best to boil again after this so you’re not left with any aftertaste.
7. Last but by no means least, look up and look under! Meaning, how often do you look and clean under your sofas or look up for spider’s webs hanging in little nooks or lighting? Now is the time! Finish your rooms off with a thorough check of any necessary dusting or cleaning that you might otherwise miss.

Cleanhome (Haywards Heath)
Just to let you know we are open for business as usual and you can continue to have your cleaner clean your house.
The government has made it clear that cleaners are still permitted to work inside peoples' homes as long as Government Guidelines on social distancing and staying safe are followed (see below). In summary:
You can be outside of your home for work purposes where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home, including if your job involves working in other people's homes.
The full text can be found here New National Restrictions from 5 January (in England; there are similar texts available for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Specifically relating to cleaners, the guidance continues: 'This guidance applies to those working in, visiting or delivering to home environments. These include, but are not limited to, people working in the following areas:
Note this guidance is for people who are fit and well, and is dependent on the following social distancing guidelines being followed:
The good news with regard to cleaning is that the cleaners can social distance from their clients very easily, and we would advise that, if you are at home when they are there, that you remain in a separate room to your cleaner.
If you are happy to adhere to the government guidelines - and if your cleaner has not been in touch already - then please just call the office and we will ensure that your cleaning continues.
Best regards
The Cleanhome Team
