Goodbye winter blues and hello spring. As well as brighter days and greener trees, this time of year also means…spring cleaning! Nothing beats a completely clean and tidy home, and when’s better to tackle it than a brand new season?
Plan of action
First and foremost, get a plan in place. Don’t leave the difficult jobs until last, like the fridge clear out. Get these things ticked off the list first, so even if the whole house isn’t finished in one go, at least the daunting tasks are out of the way.
Arm yourself
Make sure you’re fully equipped with the right cleaning products. If you’re going to do a full spring clean, you’ve got to do it properly. Of course have your trusty all-purpose cleaner to hand, but also arm yourself with task-specific cleaners too.
Get rid of junk
As well as giving the house a good clean top to bottom, spring cleaning is about de-cluttering too. The time has finally come to get rid of the junk cluttering up the spare room, lying on bookshelves, hiding in drawers and living in the back of the cupboards.
Replace your linens
Totally transform your home with crisp new bed sheets for the change in season, and make sure you remember to wash all the bed throws and cushion covers so everything is looking, feeling and smelling fresh too.
Dust down
Spring cleaning equals the big dust down. Microfibre cloths will be your best friend here, and for those hard to reach places, just attach onto the end of a measuring stick. A lint roller is perfect for picking up dust on lampshades.
Update lightbulbs
How many of the lightbulbs in your house actually work? The spring clean is a great time to check them in each room and update where necessary. Top tip: replace with bulbs labelled “daylight” as they mimic natural light.

Just to let you know we are open for business as usual and you can continue to have your cleaner clean your house.
The government has made it clear that cleaners are still permitted to work inside peoples' homes as long as Government Guidelines on social distancing and staying safe are followed (see below). In summary:
You can be outside of your home for work purposes where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home, including if your job involves working in other people's homes.
The full text can be found here New National Restrictions from 5 January (in England; there are similar texts available for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Specifically relating to cleaners, the guidance continues: 'This guidance applies to those working in, visiting or delivering to home environments. These include, but are not limited to, people working in the following areas:
Note this guidance is for people who are fit and well, and is dependent on the following social distancing guidelines being followed:
The good news with regard to cleaning is that the cleaners can social distance from their clients very easily, and we would advise that, if you are at home when they are there, that you remain in a separate room to your cleaner.
If you are happy to adhere to the government guidelines - and if your cleaner has not been in touch already - then please just call the office and we will ensure that your cleaning continues.
Best regards
The Cleanhome Team
