What to Clean in April by Cleanhome Sussex

April is the perfect month to deep clean and refresh your home after the long winter months. With the weather warming up, what better time to declutter, clean, and reorganise various areas of your home. Here’s our comprehensive cleaning guide: –

1. Windows and window dressings

Let the sunshine in by cleaning your windows using a solution of equal parts distilled white vinegar and water, and then apply with a microfibre cloth or squeegee. You can put your mixture into a handy spray bottle for easier application. Then dry with a clean dry cloth.

Don’t forget to clean your window dressings — for fabric blinds like roller blinds, start by rolling down to a closed position, then hoover using a soft hoover attachment, and for a deeper clean you can use a damp cloth and wipe your blind in a downward motion from top to bottom. And for shutters, use a feather duster or a clean microfibre cloth wiping in a downwards motion.

2. Deep clean your Kitchen

Kitchens tend to accumulate grease, food splatters, and crumbs, making April the ideal month to do a thorough clean. Start with the appliances, like the oven, fridge and microwave. And begin by discarding any expired food from your cupboards and fridge before cleaning thoroughly, and don’t forget to clean the exteriors as well as interiors and organise as you go. Lastly, clean the sink, worksurfaces and splashbacks to keep your kitchen looking great and smelling fresh.

3. Declutter and organise

April is a great time to tackle the clutter that may have built up over the winter months. Start by going through wardrobes and drawers, especially those that have items from the colder months that you no longer need. Consider donating or recycling things you haven’t used in the past year. Organise your spring and summer clothes so they’re easy to access, and store away any winter gear that isn’t necessary for the coming months. 4. Wash your walls and skirting boards

Spring cleaning means paying attention to areas you might not always think about, like your walls and skirting boards. Walls can gather dust, fingerprints, and grime over time. 6. Clean and sanitise your Bathroom

The bathroom often gets overlooked in daily cleaning routines, but a thorough deep clean is essential especially with the change of season. Scrub your bath and shower area, clean the grout, and wipe down mirrors and fixtures. Sanitise toilet handles, taps, and doorknobs which are high-touch areas. Consider washing your bathmats as they can harbour bacteria or odours over time.

7. Wash bedding and upholstery

April is a great time to freshen up your bedding. Wash your sheets, duvets, pillows, and any other bedding you use regularly. You may also want to rotate or flip your mattress to ensure even wear. Hoover your mattress to remove dust mites and allergens that can accumulate over time. It’s also a good time to clean upholstered furniture, such as sofas and chairs. Use a hoover with an upholstery attachment to remove dirt, and spot clean any stains.

8. Outdoor spaces

Peace of Mind

Only 1 in 50 applicants makes it on to our carefully screened database. We interview them twice, visit them in their own homes and take up at least two references. And if they still subsequently don't measure up to your standards, we will send you someone who does.

We don't operate in teams, and therefore you get the same cleaner every week. This is good because you develop a relationship with your cleaner. We have some clients who have had the same cleaner for years and years - and that's what we want for you.

COVID-19 5th January Update

 

Just to let you know we are open for business as usual and you can continue to have your cleaner clean your house.

The government has made it clear that cleaners are still permitted to work inside peoples' homes as long as Government Guidelines on social distancing and staying safe are followed (see below). In summary:

You can be outside of your home for work purposes where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home, including if your job involves working in other people's homes.

The full text can be found here New National Restrictions from 5 January (in England; there are similar texts available for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Specifically relating to cleaners, the guidance continues: 'This guidance applies to those working in, visiting or delivering to home environments. These include, but are not limited to, people working in the following areas:

  • 'This can include work in other people's homes where necessary - for example, for nannies, cleaners, social care workers providing support to children and families, or tradespeople (this is not an exhaustive list)'

Note this guidance is for people who are fit and well, and is dependent on the following social distancing guidelines being followed:

  • No work should be carried out in a household where people are isolating or where an individual is being shielded.
  • The cleaners can continue work, providing that they are well and have no symptoms. No work should be carried out by a cleaner who has coronavirus symptoms, however mild, or when someone in their own household has symptoms.
  • No work should be carried out in a household where any occupants are clinically extremely vulnerable to coronavirus, or households with a possible or confirmed case of coronavirus.
  • Whilst in the house. a cleaner should maintain a safe distance of at least two metres from any household occupant at all times, and ensure good ventilation in the area where they are working, including opening the window.
  • Upon entering the home, cleaners should wash their hands using soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Cleaners should wash their hands regularly, particularly after blowing their nose, sneezing or coughing, and when leaving the property.

The good news with regard to cleaning is that the cleaners can social distance from their clients very easily, and we would advise that, if you are at home when they are there, that you remain in a separate room to your cleaner.
